Safe Schools Hub for Parents

Your Part

How can you help to make your child’s school experience a safe and happy one?

You can help to establish a good relationship between your child, your family and your child’s school. There are many ways to contribute to making your child’s school safe and supportive and to nurture the wellbeing of your child.

First and foremost, talk to your child. Conversations are critical. The section Communicating with your child contains ideas for establishing positive communication.

You know your child better than anyone and if you have a positive relationship with your child’s school, this benefits your child both socially and academically. It shows them that you and their teachers are working together in partnership to achieve the best for them.

In ‘Your part’, you will find information on positive strategies for connecting with your child’s school, building your child’s wellbeing, communicating with your child, and managing your feelings and skills. These strategies can help you to communicate effectively with your child and with your child’s teachers.

In this video clip Michelle Peters, Team Leader, Pastoral Care and Wellbeing at Catholic Schools Office in the Diocese of Broken Bay, explains that the National Safe Schools Framework places parents’ role as key in ensuring their child’s safety and wellbeing at school.
