Safe Schools Hub for Parents

What to do about

Like most parents, it is natural to sometimes worry about how your child is going, for instance, whether they are safe, whether they are happy, whether they are settling in or whether they are doing well.

Sometimes, these concerns can be very serious: you might feel that your child is being bullied online or in the schoolyard or being harassed because of their gender, race or sexual orientation. You may be worried about their self-esteem or be seeking ways to find more support if they have special needs.

When you have a concern and emotions are involved, it can be hard to know where to start.

This section gives you some ideas and links to support sites that might help you to deal positively with your own feelings of worry, and to help you decide what to do if something of concern arises.

It is good to remember that many parents have the same worries. The fact that you are looking for more information or seeking help shows how much you care, and this is a great way to start.

The suggestions here are designed to help you find your way if you need assistance or support.

In this video clip Sue Cahill, Student Wellbeing Leader at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Primary School, talks about their parent support group.
